2 x original calligraphic ink paintings from Japan, painted on hand made rice paper.

Large size: 124.5cm high x 37cm wide. Price is the total price for both paintings - supplied as a pair.

One depicts the Buddhist monk Daruma (Bodhidharma, 5th/6th Century AD) - the founder of Zen Buddhism, and the other his magic mallet. The mallet is also represented today as part of a children's game known as Daruma Otoshi.

 

Exact age unknown, but 20th Century. Framed.
