A scarce set of 3 first editions of this rather wonderful work by Maspero. All the books have original cream cloth hardback covers with elaborate motif to front and printed and gilt spines. Only light shelf wear, rubbing and minor bumping to corners. Some age disoloration.

Very good condition overall. Text pages nice and clean except for annotations by the previous owner who has made some very scholarly notes to the page margins, but is respectful to the text content (J. Child, who's name is inscribed to the books - there may well be an academic connection here as the books were sourced from St Andrews).

Foxing to coloured plates/tissue guards as would be expected.

A terrific set with interesting subject matter, and wonderfully illustrated throughout.

Each volume approximately 28cm high x 19cm wide x 5.5cm deep.
A heavyweight set, weighing approx 8kg unpacked.
Each volume approx 800 pages.
