Important early work on the manufacture and craft of porcelain and its commercial application. The classifications devised in this volume are still used to this day. Includes substantial sections on Chinese and Japanese porcelain.
This is a large volume bound in its original full leather calf binding. The cover with gilt border and gilt lettering to spine with raised bands. Inside, endpapers are marbled.
Cover is in fair condition but original. Covers have taped repairs to joints. Text is very good. Some spotting to first few and last few pages, but overall very good. Clean and bright for a work of this date.
3 page subscribers' list + 690pp + 28 annotated plates (although only 26 announced on the title page).
Made available only to the subsciption list which included the Emperor of France (5 copies) and Russian Emperor. The subscription list accounts for approx. 388 copies being produced (some subscribers ordered multiple copies). Text in French.
