Burmese food carrier, htamin-gyaing (tiffin basket), 47cm.

This mid 20th Century tiffin box features 4 lidded compartments set within a wooden frame carrier handle. They are topped with a cup set on a shallow plate, on top of a deeper lipped plate.

These became extremely popular during colonial times.

This is a lovely example in excellent condition. Beautiful Yun decoration from Pagan (Bagan). Yok-thei pattern - the design incorporates figures riding on horseback, striding or dancing figures, amongst trees amidst vegetal scrolling, and is topped with a peacock motif.

Provenance: the property of an American diplomat, stationed in Asia in the 1950s and 60s.

Size (approx):
Height = 47cm.
Diameter of compartments: 20.5cm.

Weight: 2.3kg.
