Illuminated manuscript page on vellum.

SOLD

The subject depicted is  St Helena (c. 250-330), mother of the Emperor Constantine, who is said to have discovered the remains of the True Cross. The work is a decorative example of the renewed interest in manuscript illumination from the middle of the 19th century. Hence this page is probably from the second half of the 19th century, but is undated.

The leaf is vellum and is approximately 215mm high x 160mm wide. Generally good condition, but there are colour losses to the central panel and the text is very faded.

English language - possibly from Scotland as that it where it was acquired.
