A beautiful copy of this work by American artist, Emelene Abbey Dunn (1859-1929), who founded the New York Normal Art School, after studying art in Florence and Paris. The main part of the book features her account of her travels and her watercolour illustrations. The manuscript of the book was found amongst her personal effects after she died.

Mediterranean Picture Lands, by Emelene Abbey Dunn, with Illustrations from Water-Color Sketches by the Author. Prefaced by an Account of Miss Dunn's Life and Work. We believe this preface is most likely to have been written by Mary S. Dunn (Mary Skinner Dunn, 1855-1937), who claims copyright in the book, and is the sister of Emelene Abbey Dunn. The book carries a tipped in card with inscription from Mary D. Dunn.

Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. His signature to first blank free endpaper and some minor pencil annotations. Please see our other listings for related works.

Essentially privately printed as a memorial edition, by Mary S. Dunn / the New York Normal Art School, and printed by the Du Bois Press, Rochester, New York, 1929. First edition.

The text is lovely - clean and bright throughout. With deckled vertical edge and some of the pages still remaining uncut. The plates are beautifully reproduced. All soundly bound. A most attractive publication.
